Caroline Havard is a physiotherapist who is experienced in working with children, young people and adults with disability. She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. She graduated with a BSc Honours degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Ulster in 1987. Subsequent qualifications include the Bobath course and the Postgraduate Certificate in Posture Management for People with Complex Disability from Oxford Brookes University.
Caroline Havard has been preparing medico-legal reports for Wendy Murphy Associates since November 2009. She provides reports on adults and children with neurological conditions including cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, Erb’s palsy, stroke and developmental delay and cases concerning wrongful birth. She has also been an expert witness with Bush & Co since April 2013. Currently she prepares approximately 40 to 50 reports a year, 35% of which are instructions from the Claimant's solicitor, 45% on behalf of the Defendant and 20% are jointly instructed. Caroline Havard began her physiotherapy career as a rotational physiotherapist based at Llandough Hospital in Cardiff in 1987, later moving to Gwent Healthcare (now Aneurin Bevan University Health Board or ABUHB). She has worked in acute and community settings gaining expertise in a wide range of paediatric conditions including respiratory, neurological and orthopaedic. She provided a domiciliary service for patients with cystic fibrosis for eight years. From January 1993 until July 2020, Caroline Havard was employed by ABUHB (formerly Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust) based at Serennu Children’s Centre in Newport. She became a Clinical Specialist working with children and young people with complex disability. Along with physiotherapy treatments, she has expertise in assessment for, and provision of, specialist seating, wheelchairs, lying supports, standing supports and walking aids. Caroline Havard undertakes private and freelance work which includes working on a consultancy basis for Crownbridge School, Torfaen, Wales. Caroline Havard has been a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy since 1987. She is also a member of the Medico-Legal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MLACP), the Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists (APCP) and the Posture and Mobility Group (PMG). Caroline Havard is an Associate MOVE trainer and assisted Crownbridge School to achieve and maintain its status as a MOVE Centre of Excellence (https://www.moveeurope.org.uk). Caroline Havard is a member of the teaching team for the four-day course in Posture Management for Children and Adults with Complex Disability. She delivers training courses in the UK and abroad. Caroline Havard is regularly invited to contribute to the physiotherapy programme at Cardiff University, for both undergraduate and post-graduate students. Caroline Havard was a clinical case note reviewer for the NCEPOD chronic neurodisability/cerebral palsy study which delivered its report entitled “Each and Every Need” in March 2018. Caroline Havard attends conferences and relevant courses in order to maintain her physiotherapy knowledge. She attends regular training and updates on expert witness report writing, giving evidence in Court and preparation of joint statement reports. |
