Katie Child is a neurological physiotherapist who specialises in working with adults with complex disability. She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists. In 2010 she graduated from Cardiff University with a BSc Honours (First Class) in Physiotherapy. In 2020 she gained a Master of Science degree (Distinction) from Oxford Brookes University in Rehabilitation (Posture Management) which incorporates the Post-graduate Certificate in Posture Management for Children and Adults with Complex Disability accredited by Oxford Brookes University.
As part of her Masters programme, she undertook an original piece of research entitled: "A Delphi study to identify the content of a postural management learning programme for carers of adults with neurological conditions". Katie Child was successfully accepted onto the 2020 cohort of NHS England's Clinical Entrepreneur Scheme which involves a plan to expand training opportunities for informal and formal care providers on the management of adults with complex neurological disability. Katie Child has worked in a variety of settings including acute medical and stroke wards and a regional brain injury unit. She is employed by Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) as a clinical and team lead neurological physiotherapist for a community neurological conditions service. She has a varied caseload of patients with neurological conditions resulting in complex physical disability which include, but are not limited to, acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, progressive supranuclear palsy, multiple system atrophy, muscular dystrophy and functional neurological disorders. Katie Child works closely with her multi-disciplinary team colleagues and is the leading therapist in her locality for providing and supporting colleagues to undertake complex posture assessments and subsequent prescription of 24-hour posture/physical management programmes for adults. She writes policies and guidelines and provides training and regular expert opinion on posture management and other topics related to neurological and complex disability. Katie Child is an expert witness physiotherapist with Wendy Murphy Associates and is able to accept instructions from solicitors on behalf of either the Claimant(s) or the Defendant(s) as well as joint instructions. Katie Child is a member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology (ACPIN), the Medicolegal Association of Physiotherapists (MLACP) and The Posture and Mobility Group (PMG). Katie Child undertakes training relevant to neurological physiotherapy and expert witness work. She has attended the MLACP’s Introduction to Medicolegal Work course and their conference events. Katie Child has completed the Bond Solon Excellence in Report Writing course in June 2021 and the Courtroom Skills course in November 2022. |
